Are you a neurologist, neuroscientist, researcher, or healthcare professional?
Apply to join EFNA’s Scientific & Medicial Advisory Board
And play a pivotal role in advancing EFNA’s mission and improving the lives of those affected by neurological conditions.
A Scientific and Medical Advisory Board (SMAB) is being established by the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) to provide scientific and medical expertise and guidance on matters relating to neurological conditions. As patient involvement with research and treatment design increases, it is essential that our community remains up to date with advances, and that we as EFNA facilitate communications with the research and medical communities.
The primary purpose of the SMAB is to inform EFNA’s members on the latest scientific and medical knowledge. This will help ensure EFNA and its members are responsive to the needs of individuals with neurological conditions and their caregivers, and help inform positions on policies, programs, and initiatives, relating to neuroscience and medicine.
The SMAB will consist of experts from various neurology-related scientific and medical fields, including but not limited to neurologists, neuroscientists, researchers, and healthcare professionals. The composition of the SMAB will strive to represent a diverse array of neurological conditions and the needs of the broader neurology community. The board members will be appointed based on their expertise, experience, and commitment to EFNA’s mission.
The creation of the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board reflects EFNA’s commitment to leveraging scientific and medical expertise to drive positive change for individuals living with neurological conditions. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, the SMAB will play a pivotal role in advancing EFNA’s mission and improving the lives of those affected by neurological conditions.
Responsibilities of the SMAB:
- Provide guidance and recommendations to EFNA on matters related to research, treatment, and care for people with neurological conditions.
- Advise EFNA on the latest scientific and medical developments, emerging trends, and potential opportunities within the field of neurology.
- Assist EFNA in identifying and addressing gaps and unmet needs in the field of neurological conditions, particularly from a scientific and medical perspective.
- Offer input on EFNA’s advocacy efforts, public awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives to ensure they are evidence-based and relevant to the needs of the neurology community.
Meetings and Communication:
The SMAB will convene twice per year, either in person or virtually, to discuss relevant topics and provide input to EFNA. In addition to formal meetings, board members will engage in ongoing communication with EFNA staff and each other to address emerging issues and provide timely advice.
Accountability and Independence:
Board members will serve in their individual capacity and provide independent, evidence-based advice to EFNA. The SMAB will operate with transparency and integrity, ensuring that its recommendations are free from undue influence and conflicts of interest.
